The 3 CD's, The Three Choirs
from Devon - North Devon Choir, South Devon Choir and Stanborough Chorus - join together once every three years. Here
is the afternoon rehearsal of this year's event taken in Torquay Town Hall, although the Stanborough Chorus
did not attend this time because of prior committments. Two professional soloists joined the choirs with a full
orchestra of 40+ instrumentalists. The programme was entitled "Maritime Proms" and included Vaughan Williams
"A Sea Symphony" for the first half and George Dyson "Four songs for sailors"; Gilbert and Sullivan "HMS
Pinafore" extracts; "Henry Wood "Fantasia on British sea songs"; Edward Elgar "Land of Hope
and Glory" and Hubert Parry "Jerusalem" with a repeat preformance the following day in Barnstaple Pannier Market
(see our past concert diary).
Members and friends of the Choir soaking up the atmosphere
at Kents Cavern in preparation for their forthcoming concert which included Rutter's "When Icicles Hang". Whilst
no icicles were in the caves, stalactites and stalagmites were the next best thing!
