1 History of the Choir

A 'potted' history of the Choir 'Post War to Pre-Century', for the period 1946-1999 is available.   The book, In addition to recording the events occuring and concerts held during this period, it also contains a number of references to other relevant facts about Torbay which a reader may find of interest.

Copies of the book are available from the Choir Secretary price £2.50 each plus p/p.

A further publication should be printed by 2011 (our 140th Anniversary) which covers the earlier history of the Choir from 1871- 1939.   Anyone interested in some of the historical events, particularly relating to music, which took place in Paignton during the end of the 19th and part of the 20th century should find this book fascinating.

A further note will appear in this section of the Choir website when the book has been printed and the cost known.

'Musical Notes'
The Choir Secretary produces, on behalf of the Choir, a quarterly publication (Jan, Apr, July, Oct) entitled 'Musical Notes'.   The newsletter endeavours to co-ordinate and assist societies when planning their concert programmes, and includes 44 Devon choral, operetta, opera, orchestras and bands performing classical or light classical music.   'Musical Notes' is in diary form, and in addition to all contributing societies receiving a copy when it is printed, the document is also sent to 37 local media, publicity, libraries and tourist points.   There is no charge to societies to be included other than a request for postage costs to be re-imbursed.
The Choir is assisted for some of the costs for the production of ''Musical Notes' by grants from South Hams & Teignbridge District Councils and Torbay Council.
Please contact the Choir Secretary if your society (providing it is in Devon and performs music in the above styles) would like to be included.
